Local Music Tap: 4 Shows To See This Week(end)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- From a two-day evening of local acts at the Cedar Cultural Center to an exciting album release party at the Icehouse, here are the four shows to see this weekend.

FRIDAY: Bad Bad Hats Album Release Party @ Icehouse, Mpls.

The Minneapolis up-and-coming trio Bad Bad Hats -- led by vocalist and guitarist Kerry Alexander – are making a splash in the local music scene (and beyond) with the release of their debut album, "Psychic Reader
". They celebrate the release at Icehouse with special guests The Awful Truth Friday!

Doors open at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY: "Minnesota Next" event @ Cedar Cultural Center, Mpls.

"Minnesota Next" is a two-night event that features many talented local musicians – and visual artists.

The first night features Hustle Rose, The Dirty Banks, B.O.Y.F. and Bae Tigre. The second features Glow Mechanics, Danami and the Blue, Perfume Monster and the Gentleman's Anti Temperance League.

Andrea Swensson, who pulled the bands together in her "10 New Twin Cities Bands To Watch" list, will be the special guest both nights.

This is an all-ages event and venue. Tickets will cost $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Doors open at 7 p.m. both nights.

ALL WEEKEND: Summer Set Music & Camping Festival In Somerset, Wis.

Let's take a slight step out of Minnesota for this one, shall we?

In addition to featuring tons of national acts, like Bassnecter, The Weeknd and deadmau5, this festival features a lot of local acts, too.

Those include bands like Cloud Cult, Lizzo, Hippo Campus and John Mark Nelson!

SUNDAY: Swallows, David Ullman & The Furious Light, and Midland Uprising @ Amsterdam Bar, St. Paul

Enjoy a Sunday full of folk and blues inspired music at the Amsterdam Bar.

It's a double album release night – with free admission! David Ullman and Midland Uprising are releasing new albums: "The Furious Light" for David and "Awake For Days" for Midland.

St. Paul-based Swallows closes out the night.

It's a 21-plus show and music starts at 8 p.m.
