Even though National Dog Day has landed on a Wednesday this year, there are still some fun things to do with your pooch to celebrate.

Willmar has picked the best day to hold the grand opening of their new dog park, on Willmar Avenue and 22nd Street Southwest. The celebration, hosted by KC Dog, will feature several doggy contests, prize drawings, raffles and free bandanas and dog treats. The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Maple Grove’s 3 Squares Restaurant is holding a huge patio bash, where dogs can enjoy house-made dog treats and humans can take advantage of specials on food and drinks. Twin Fish Photo will also have a backdrop and several props there to help create some hilarious pictures of you and your tail-waggin’ family members. The fun runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

And The Freehouse in Minneapolis is hosting a benefit for Minnesota Boxer Rescue from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be tempting treats for the dogs, as well as goody bags and great specials at this tasty tap house.

Now go have a furrific National Dog Day!
