ALBERTVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) — Traffic stopped on a major Minnesota interstate Saturday afternoon after an accident involving eight people and four vehicles left one person dead.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. on eastbound I-94 near the County Road 19 exit.

Most of those involved in the accident suffered no apparent injuries or non-life threatening injuries, except for the passengers of one car, driven by a 63-year-old woman from Winnipeg, Canada. Riding in that car was the woman’s 38-year-old daughter, Erin Bateman, who was killed, and a 10-year-old girl, Elizabeth Sabourin, who suffered serious injuries.

An accident report from the State Patrol says the driver of the car and Sabourin were both wearing seat belts, while Bateman was not. The young girl remains hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Normal traffic resumed on I-94 a few hours after the crash.
