4.5 Percent Hike Expected In Hennepin Co. Property Taxes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Property owners in Hennepin County could see the annual increase in their property taxes nearly triple next year.
On Tuesday, county officials proposed a property tax increase of nearly 4.5 percent. The typical annual increase in the county is 1.6 percent.
The proposed proposal would mean the owner of a median-value home would see their taxes go up by about $40.
Officials say the rise would help cover the costs of many things, including additional services to residents.
"The proposed budget represents thoughtful consideration about the current and future needs of Hennepin County," Hennepin County Administrator David Hough said to the board. "The proposed budget you will consider today and in the coming months, reflects our recommendations on how to best position the county for the future and maintain or enhance our commitment to serve residents."
A series of public meetings will be held to discuss the proposal. The first is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis.
