Mother Of 2 Displaced By Duplex Fire: 'I Feel So Lost'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Investigators continue to search for the cause of a fire that left three families without a place to call home.
The fire heavily damaged a duplex in the 1400 block of 6th Street NE. Everyone was able to get out without injury.
They're going to need help to get back on their feet.
Emily Lawson said she is having a hard time coping with losing everything.
"I just feel so lost right now," she said. "I just bought my kids clothes for school; their dad bought them clothes for school. Everything is gone. My babies don't have nothing."
Lawson said she was at work when her cousin Kelley called to tell her the house was on fire.
Kelley, Lawson's two children, her mother and a family of three upstairs were all able to get out before flames swallowed what once was their home.
"I feel so bad for the people upstairs, and I'm sorry for everything," Lawson said. "I don't know what happened, but I'm sorry."
Investigators still don't know what caused the fire.
Lawson said what saddens her the most is how this fire has impacted the lives of so many people she cares about.
"I was almost going to be homeless and everything, and then she came and helped me and now this happened to her and I feel bad," Lawson said.
Family and friends are trying to help. They set up a GoFundMe account to help Lawson and her children and extended family get a fresh start.
The American Red Cross is helping all the families displaced by the fire.
