Faribault Football Team Shaken By Car Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The Faribault High School football team is shaken by a crash involving four players.
It happened in Owatonna Thursday night. Police say the SUV the boys were in went through a stop sign and hit a semi before rolling. Their team was supposed to have a game Friday, but it was postponed to Saturday because of the crash.
As the Faribault Falcons came out onto Bruce Smith Field Saturday, there was no running. They walked out together, holding hands as a team.
"Our team will be playing with heavy hearts," head coach Ned Louis said.
Juniors Henry Sanchez, Chase Ernste, Alex Linse and Lamont Anderson were on their way home from Rochester, where they watched a volleyball tournament, when the crash happened.
"They're the best friends I've ever had," quarterback Kade Hart said. "They're all athletic, they're all caring."
Hart said he was going to go with the boys, but backed out to do homework.
"We have to play for them," Hart said. "As much as we want to play with them, we have to play for them."
All four boys were wearing their seat belts. Coaches said while they likely won't play the rest of the season, they are expected to live.
"If they weren't wearing their seat belts, they wouldn't be here today," Hart said.
All four players are recovering at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Lamont was listed in fair condition, but the hospital did not release an update on the three other injured boys
Owatonna Police are investigating the crash. Police say it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
