Minneapolis Firefighters' Block Party Raises Money For Kids' Winter Coats

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis firefighters joined forces Saturday not to fight fires, but to raise money to keep people warm this winter.

It was the third annual Minneapolis Firefighters block party. Fulton Brewery in the North Loop hosted the event. People gathered to enjoy food, beer and listen to live music.

Proceeds benefit the Firefighters' Operation Warm program. It provides new coats to children in need.

"These are brand new coats. We write their names in it," Station 6 firefighter Justin Johnson said. "The kids appreciate it their family appreciates it."

Last year, firefighters raised $45,000 and passed out 13,000 winter coats to kids in need. They're hoping to double those numbers this year.
