Timberwolves Waive F Anthony Bennett

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Wednesday that they've waived forward Anthony Bennett to trim their roster to 18 players as training camp approaches.

Bennett was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was part of the trade package that sent Kevin Love to the Cavaliers in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, last year's No. 1 overall choice.

Timberwolves General Manager Milt Newton said after talking with Bennett and his representatives, the best option for the organization was for the two to part ways. The Timberwolves bought out his contract and made him eligible for free agency.

Bennett played in 57 games with the Timberwolves and averaged 5.2 points in more than 15 minutes per game.
