Chaska Man Sentenced To 51 Months In Prison For Home Burglary

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old Hasting man has been sentenced for burglarizing a home last October, the Carver County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.

On Sept. 30, Matthew Vaught Diamond was sentenced to 51 months – more than 4 years – in prison in connection to the Oct. 30, 2014 incident. He was found guilty second-degree burglary of a dwelling, a felony, in mid-May.

Diamond was found guilty of forcefully breaking into a Chaska home and stealing a number of items, including several pieces of distinctive, heirloom jewelry.

After the burglary, an envelope was found by the homeowner containing the name "Savanna W." An investigation revealed that a Savanna W. pawned several pieces of stolen jewelry at a Shakopee pawn shop later that day. An interview with Savanna W. revealed that she had borrowed her car to Diamond the day of the burglary and she was later asked to pawn the jewelry for him.

Diamond was arrested shortly after on a non-related probation violation, but authorities noticed the thread pattern on his shoes was consistent with the tread pattern on the kicked in service door. His phone was also linked to being near the address of the incident at the time of the burglary.
