Target, FedEx Looking To Hire Thousands Of Seasonal Workers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the first time, Target is setting aside two days to interview potential employees.

Managers are looking for people to fill cashier, sales floors and stocking positions for the holidays. Target plans to hire 70,000 seasonal workers nationwide.

Job interviews will be held Thursday and Friday at all 54 metro-area Target stores.

Experts say if applicants are applying for a seasonal job in addition to their primary job, they should be upfront and clear with their new employer on their available hours.

FedEx also plans to hire more than 55,000 workers nationwide for the holidays. The positions include package handlers and operations management.

The company says there's a good chance many of the seasonal workers will have the opportunity to continue working with FedEx after the holidays.

What are the potential downsides of seasonal jobs?

Full-time employees usually have first dibs on preferred shifts, so seasonal workers might find themselves working long, inconvenient hours – and even on holidays.
