First Pet Food Shelf, 'People And Pets Together,' Opens In Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Donations of Purina, Science Diet and other pet foods will soon be pouring in to a first-of-its kind food shelf in Minnesota.

Organizers cut the ribbon Sunday on a new donation center for pets in south Minneapolis. It's called People and Pets Together. Their hope is that fewer people will have to give up their pets when they're struggling financially.

"A lot of times, people think that if you can't afford a pet, you shouldn't have one. But the rewards that pets offer emotionally and physically go far beyond any of that judgment," Kim Carrier with People and Pets Together said.

The pet food shelf will serve low-income clients in the Powderhorn, Phillips and Corcoran neighborhoods.
