Brazilian Guitarist Puts Fresh Twist On Latest Hits; Plays At Cedar Cultural Center

There's a pattern when a new song hits the radio.

At first, it's played sparingly; maybe once during the rush hour, or a few times really early in the morning or late at night. Just enough so that one person hears it, enjoys it and spreads the word.

Then, once it has interested people, it's played a bit more. But only slightly.

Finally, after its hit peak popularity, it's on the radio all the time. This is often when people stop listening to the song.

But, be it a few months or a few years later, there's always a time when you come back to that song that once dominated the airwaves.

Almost immediately nostalgia sets in.

The song that was so annoying by the end of its popularity that it almost made your ears bleed is the same song that is transporting you back to the first moment you heard it. It reminds you of an epic night out with friends, a relaxing drive or a smile.

This can often be the same when a song is remixed, remastered or covered by a different artist. While it takes on a life of its own, it can still bring up memories from the original tune.

For those looking to experience the power of nostalgia through music, the Cedar Cultural Center is offering up the perfect performance.

Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad will be touring in the Twin Cities and stopping at the Cultural Center. Known for her Afro-Brazilian style, Assad has performed for over 20 years.

While Assad plays a number of original pieces, on her latest album she has taken a Brazilian approach to a number of hits from popular artists such as Skrillex, Lorde, Hozier and more.

Badi Assad will perform at the Cedar Cultural Center on Thursday, Oct. 29. Doors open at 7 p.m. The Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $30 in advance, or $35 the day of the show.
