Timberwolves To Wear Commemorative Patch Honoring Flip Saunders

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Tuesday that the team will wear a commemorative patch on its jersey this year to honor Flip Saunders.

Saunders died Sunday at the age of 60 after a four-month battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Timberwolves officials said the patch will be worn for the first time on Monday, Nov. 2, which is the team's home opener against the Portland Trail Blazers at Target Center. The patch will be on the jersey for the rest of the season.

The Timberwolves will also wear a special warm-up shirt during all games in November that says "WE," symbolizing the team's togetherness. The shirt is gray with black lettering and has the name "Flip" across the heart side of the shirt. It will be worn Wednesday night as the Timberwolves open the season in Los Angeles against the Lakers.

The NBA also announced Monday that all coaches will wear "Flip" pin during all games this year to honor Saunders.
