Mayor Coleman Drops Plan For Grand Avenue Meters

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Parking along St. Paul's Grand Avenue will remain free.

Mayor Chris Coleman announced Thursday the city will not proceed with a plan to install parking meters.

The mayor brought up the proposal last month as a way to help solve parking problems in the busy area.

The proposal faced opposition from business owners and members of the community.

Coleman said in a statement that while he still believes parking meters are a good idea, he is pulling the proposal after Ward 2 Councilman Dave Thune withdrew his support.
