Corn Harvest 96 Percent Complete, Well Ahead Of 2014 Pace

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's corn harvest is now 96 percent complete, putting it 12 days ahead of last year's pace and five days ahead of the five-year average.

In its weekly crop progress and condition report for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that the state's corn harvest advanced to 96 percent complete from 91 percent a week earlier. That compares with 87 percent at this point last year and 93 percent for the five-year average.

Farmers were helped by warmer-than-normal temperatures, as well as 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork last week. Some farmers took advantage of the chance to till their fields and apply fertilizers for next year, and to prepare their equipment for the winter.
