Group Worried Xcel's Solar Program Won't Kick In Before Credits Expire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A local group is asking Xcel Energy to pick up the pace of its community solar program.

On Monday, the Community Power and Partners were at company headquarters to spread the message.

The group says there have been months of delays and it's worried Xcel will only let a few projects come online before federal tax credits expire.

"By having all these continued delays, it leaves less and less times for the developers to get the solar gardens online," said Alice Madden, with Community Power.

So far, the utility company has connected one of five approved applications since the legislature approved the solar program.

The federal tax incentive expires in December of 2016.
