Minnesota Students Encouraged To Enter Writing Contest

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Young Minnesotans are invited to enter a national essay contest about their love of literature.

The 23rd annual Letters About Literature contest is sponsored by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress. Student readers are asked to write a letter to an author about how the author's work touched the student's life.

Authors can be living or dead, working in any genre or time period, and can come from any country.

The Friends of the St. Paul Public Library, which is the Minnesota Center for the Book, is encouraging students in grades 4 through 12 to enter.

There are three competition levels. State judges choose top letter writers from each level who will advance to the national judging.
