Caggiula's Hat Trick Leads North Dakota Over St. Cloud State 4-3

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — Drake Caggiula's first career hat trick led the North Dakota Fighting Hawks to a 4-3 National Collegiate Hockey Conference win over St. Cloud State on Friday.

Caggiula scored twice in the first period and 28 seconds into the third period, giving him eight goals in 15 career games against the Huskies.

After years of controversy following the retirement of the Fighting Sioux nickname, North Dakota debuted the Fighting Hawks.

Rhett Gardner also scored for UND (10-1-2, 5-0-0 NCHC), which got three assists from Nick Schmaltz.

Goalie Matt Hrynkiw made 35 saves.

The Fighting Hawks are 6-0-2 on the road. The Huskies (8-3-0, 4-1-0) lost for the first time at home.

Judd Peterson, Jimmy Murray and David Morley scored for St. Cloud State. SCSU Goalie Charlie Lindgren 22 stops.
