Anoka High To Be Recognized For Producing Linebacker Steve Nelson
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The NFL is honoring Anoka High School for its contributions to the history of the Super Bowl.
As part of a the Super Bowl 50 celebration, the NFL is highlighting schools across the country for producing players that went to football's biggest game. It's part of a program called Super Bowl High School Honor Roll.
On Wednesday, former New England Patriot linebacker Steve Nelson will present Anoka High School with a silver football commemorating his participating in Super Bowl XX in 1985.
Nelson graduated from Anoka High School in 1969. He was a three-sport athlete, earning letters in football, basketball and baseball.
With the Patriots, he went on to play in the Pro Bowl three times and had his number retired by the team.
As part of the High School Honor Roll program, some 2,000 high schools will be honored this year. Going forward, every high school that produces a head coach or player that makes it to the Super Bowl will be recognized.
