Expect Snowy, Icy Roads For Parts Of Minn. This Thanksgiving

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Expect snowy and icy roads this Thanksgiving as the first snow of the season hits the Twin Cities.

From southwestern Minnesota to the metro this will primarily be a snow event, with 1-3" possible in spots, but freezing rain and drizzle has been reported. Icy roads could be covered in snow, making slick areas hard to spot.

Temperatures in eastern Minnesota have stayed above freezing, keeping the precipitation to mostly rain and allowing less concern for icing. Travelers heading to Iowa and southern Wisconsin will deal mostly with rain after crossing out of Minnesota.

Snow is expected to last into the early afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol says that as of noon, there have been 47 crashes: one fatal, eight injuries and 12 rollovers. There were an additional 32 vehicles off the road requiring tow assist. Most of the crashes occurred in southern Minnesota.

Friday will bring sunshine and a high around 30 degrees.
