Rock Singer Scott Weiland, 48, Found Dead In Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A famous musician was found dead on his tour bus late Thursday night.
Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer and founding member of Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on his tour bus in Bloomington, according to the singer's official Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Bloomington Police Department confirmed they are investigating a man's death.
According to police, officers responded to a hotel in the 2200 block of Killebrew Drive on a report of an unresponsive man in a RV. Police confirmed the man was dead but would not release his identity.
Weiland was 48, and leaves behind two children.
The singer was set to perform with his band, The Wildabouts, at the Medina Entertainment Center, but cancelled earlier in the week, the venue says. They were also scheduled to perform in Rochester on Friday.
In a music career that spanned nearly three decades, Weiland was best known for his work as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, one of the most commercially successful grunge rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Later in his career, Weiland split from the Pilots and focused on various side projects, including the popular hard rock "supergroup" Velvet Revolver.
Weiland was also known for his struggle with drugs throughout his career.
The cause of his death is still undetermined.
