Sheriff: Xmas Lights May Have Started St. Louis County Garage & House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is reminding homeowners to check all electrical holiday decorations after a garage and house fire early Friday morning.

Shortly before 4 a.m., county officials were dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 4774 Ugstad Road in Canosia Township. There, responders found a family outside the residence along with the family dog.

County officials say the initial investigation revealed an unknown cause of the fire, but say it's possible the fire started due to electrical issues with Christmas lights in the garage. The homeowner said there was nothing in the garage that could have started this, but there were Christmas lights on the garage that were on a timer.

Officials say the fire started in the detached garage and spread to the house.

The condition of the house and garage is unknown.
