Ty Hoffman Sentenced To Nearly 5 Years For Armed Bank Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The man who eluded authorities for a month after killing his ex-boyfriend has been sentenced to additional time in prison for an armed robbery.

On Wednesday, the United States Attorney's Office announced Lyle "Ty" Hoffman, 45, was sentenced to 57 months in prison – nearly 5 years – in connection to the armed robbery of a Blaine TCF Bank. He pleaded guilty to the robbery on July 8, 2015.

Hoffman pleaded guilty to murdering his former partner, Kelly Phillips, at a gas station in Arden Hills on Aug. 11, 2014. While on the run from authorities, Hoffman robbed the bank on Aug. 31, 2014. He was able to get approximately $12,020 during the robbery.

Hoffman was arrested on Sept. 11, 2014 after walking through a drive-thru lawn of an Arby's in Shakopee. He had more than $3,000 in dye-stained money when arrested.

The federal 57-month sentence will run consecutive to his 25-year state sentence for second-degree murder.
