St. Cloud Security Guard Cleared
The Stearns County Attorney's office says a St. Cloud Hospital security guard was justified in Tasering a patient who later died.
It all started when 50-year-old Danny Hammond got into an altercation with Aitkin County Sheriff's Investigator Steven Sandberg.
Sandberg was guarding Hammond's hospital room. Hammond then grabbed Sandberg's gun and shot him to death. That's when security guard Ricky Hess Jr. came in and Tasered Hammond.
Authorities say the stun gun likely sent Hammond into cardiac arrest.
He was originally admitted to the hospital after trying to commit suicide. Before that, authorities say Hammond kidnapped and assaulted his wife.
No charges will be filed against Hess Jr.
