Mpls. Police: Woman Killed In Hit & Run While Walking To Taxi

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman who was about to get in a taxi cab on New Year's Eve night was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Minneapolis.

Police spokesperson John Elder says the victim was hit just after 9:20 p.m. on the 3900 block of Lyndale Avenue North.

Witnesses say the woman had walked into the street to meet a waiting taxi.

The driver who hit her, who was in a light-blue vehicle, did not stop and immediately drove off from the scene. The vehicle was seen traveling south on Lyndale and turning onto westbound 39th Avenue North.

Officers declared the woman dead on the scene. The name of the victim has not been released.

Police canvassed the area and spoke to residents in attempts to gain more information. Anyone with any information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
