Minnesota DNR Names New Leader For Big Game Program

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has named a new point person for management of the state's deer, elk and moose populations.

Adam Murkowski starts Jan. 11 as the DNR's big game program leader.

Murkowski worked in a similar position in Vermont from 2012 to 2015. Since last March he had worked for the Wisconsin DNR as a big game ecologist.

He replaces Leslie McInenly, who was promoted last October to the DNR wildlife section's forest habitat team supervisor.

Steve Merchant, the DNR's wildlife populations program manager, says Murkowski is passionate about deer and deer hunting.

The primary responsibilities of the big game program leader are to manage deer and elk populations and hunting seasons.
