Mpls. Getting Ready For Citywide Organics Recycling

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Citywide organics recycling is coming to Minneapolis.

The city announced Wednesday that this spring all residents interested in the curbside service will be able to participate in the program.

Currently, organics recycling is only offered to about 12,000 residents.

How To Sign Up?

The city says residents interested in the program need to sign up by Feb. 1 to get one of the 19,000 recycling carts available for the spring rollout.

There is no additional cost for the program.

What Can You Recycle?

The city says you can recycle food scraps from fruits, vegetables, meat, bread, pasta, eggs shells, coffee grounds and dairy products.

Non-recyclable paper products, like food-soiled paper towels and pizza boxes, can also be recycle.

What can't be tossed are yard waste, pet litter, milk cartons, oil, grease, or products labels "biodegradable."
