Vikings Offering Amenities To Keep Fans Warm Sunday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings are hoping for a sell-out for Sunday's playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.
As the temperature drops, so is the demand for tickets. We founds seats as cheap as $50 on Ticketmaster on Thursday. Fans who are there to cheer on the Vikingss will need to wear as much gear as they can -- not to show their pride, but to stay warm.
The Vikings are going to help with that too. There is a strategy when it comes to being out in the cold for that long: Staying warm by wearing multiple layers.
Before the game is the party. A tailgate started by some college buddies has flourished. Mike Conlon handles logistics.
"The key to keeping warm is by moving around so DJ DeConte keeps us dancing and when he's playing good music, you definitely can feel yourself warm up a little bit," Conlon said.
They also use more conventional ways to turn up the heat.
"This is the propane heater and this is the key to keeping your tent nice and warm," Conlon said.
A device bachelors Lance and Mike see as multi-purpose.
"This is a great way to meet women, basically women come into your tailgate tent and they want to warm up and it's a great conversation starter," Conlon said.
The talkative Viking fans say on Sunday they'll put plywood on the ground to keep their feet warm. They'll be doubling up on tarps for the tent sides on Sunday.
As for game time, Lance let us in on some warm spots in what will be a frigid place.
"Where the Biffy's are, there are a bunch of extra restrooms, and there's like a 20 by 20 spot where a lot of people kind of warm up a little bit," Lance Tetzlaff said.
Aside from the bathrooms, Goldy's Lockeroom will also be nice and toasty.
A few tips that won't be needed next year: The Vikings will be giving out Caribou Coffee for free. Starting at 9 a.m., Mariucci Arena will be open and available as a pregame warming house for fans.
And they recommend bringing a piece of foam to put under your fanny and your feet.
"I'm not going to miss the outdoor games. I'm ready for the new stadium," Conlon said.
