Video Shows Rochester Police Rescuing Man From Burning Car

ROCHESTER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Some incredible footage from southeast Minnesota emerged Saturday as police rescue a Catholic priest who got stuck in a burning car.

Video from the officers' body cameras show the moments right after they pulled the 65-year-old Georgia man out of the vehicle Thursday night.

Police say the car caught fire after being involved in a crash in Rochester. When they arrived, the car was engulfed in smoke. They had to break a window to get the driver out.

Firefighters say the man likely would have died if it wasn't for the officers who rescued him.

"It appears the vehicle was fully charged with smoke," Rochester Deputy Fire Chief Vance Swisher said, "which indicated the individual inside the vehicle was breathing products of combustion, which means they were already become disoriented to having some type of deficit from the environment they're in."

The driver was taken to the hospital where police were able to get a statement. They believe he was drunk at the time of the accident and could face DUI charges.
