4 Things To Know For Home Décor For 2016

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Out with the old and in with the new. The new year often brings a lot of expectations of change – changing diets, changing styles, changing jobs. So, why not change up your home too?

Blend Interior Design owner Bridget Burns visited WCCO This Morning to share tips about updating your home for 2016.

New Year, New Colors

This year is the first year Pantone, the color authority for interior designers, has ever named two colors of the year.

The 2016 colors are rose quartz and serenity. They're both pastels and very spring like.

"Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times," Pantone describes.

Styling Pieces

The good news in 2016 there isn't just one look that is in. However, a popular look is the curated look.

"Nothing matchy-matchy, but rather a collection of all of the things that you love placed into one," Burns said.

Home owners should mix and match a number of pieces – rustic pieces, reclaimed pieces, industrial metals – in one area. Burns recommends using this type of style in a living or family room space.

A 2016 Statement

Minnesotans love to stay warm, so grab some fur. Burns said all things fur - faux or the real thing – work. From furry stools to furry pillows to a furry blanket, each piece is easily transitioned to any room throughout the home.

Leave It In 2015

Burns said painted accent walls are out, but she recommends think about replacing it with a fun patterned wallpaper.
