Charges Filed In Bomb Threat At Rosemount Middle School
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 30-year-old Milaca man is accused of calling Rosemount Middle School with a bomb threat last November after he had been out drinking and did not want to go to work the next day, according to charges filed in Dakota County Court.
Justin Joseph Hopp was charged with threats of violence in connection with the Nov. 10, 2015, incident.
According to the complaint, Rosemount police were called at about 7 a.m. that day on a report of a threatening message left at the middle school. Administrators told police they received a message on the school attendance line at about 4:30 a.m. The message said, "Today's the day. You're all dead, boom, boom, today, today dead, done, boom."
Several officers reported to the school, searching inside and outside. Two unattended backpacks were found, but an extensive search showed there were no explosive devices and no active threat at the school.
The complaint states authorities traced the call back to a phone from the St. Cloud area. The cell phone company traced the phone back to Hopp, but a call to the phone noted that the voicemail was of a woman identified as S.V.
According to the complaint, she admitted to police she was living in St. Cloud with Hopp and that he was working a construction job at the time in Rosemount. He told police he made a call just before the threatening call, but initially denied threatening the school. He told authorities he was working a construction job on an apartment building near the middle school at the time of the incident.
Hopp later admitted to calling in the threat to the school. He said he did it because he had been out late drinking the night before and didn't want to go to work that morning. He told police he didn't think it would turn into such a big deal, the complaint states.
If convicted, he faces up to three years in jail and a $3,000 fine.
