MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials have identified the woman killed Tuesday on Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis who was fatally hit by a car while attempting to cross the street.

Rachel David was a communications specialist at Care Providers of Minnesota in Bloomington. Her son said she took the bus and light rail to work every day.

Her co-workers described her as kind woman who enjoyed writing.

Police say the 56-year-old was walking in the crosswalk on Hennepin Avenue Tuesday evening with other people when a vehicle turning off 8th Street hit her.

Emergency crews brought her to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she later died.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
