2 Dead, Officers Injured At Separate Plymouth Crime Scenes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says domestic violence was at the root of a deadly Friday night in Plymouth.
Police were called to the intersection of Rockford Road and Northwest Boulevard just about 9:15 p.m. for what they thought was a crash.
But when they arrived, they found a woman shot to death in the intersection. Minutes later, a man was reported nearby with a long gun.
That call took officers to an apartment complex on the 5200 block of Annapolis Lane North. Officers went into the apartment to confront that gunman and there was a shootout. Meanwhile, SWAT teams from at least two departments arrived to both scenes.
The gunman was eventually found dead inside the apartment building. It is not yet known if he killed himself or was killed by police.
Authorities say the two people killed had been romantically involved.
Plymouth Police Chief Mike Goldstein said some officers also went to the hospital with injuries.
"They're being cared for. They're going to be just fine and we're grateful for that because it's been a violent week across this country where several law enforcement officers have lost their lives," Goldstein said.
Authorities say the man involved had a violent criminal history.
Investigators are expected to release more information later Saturday.
