Republican Leaders Want Gov. Dayton To Halt Day Care Union Vote

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Top Republican leaders Monday called on Governor Mark Dayton to halt a statewide election now underway on whether to form a child care union.

Some in-home child care providers who oppose the union say they did not receive voting ballots. Republican leaders say it may have been intentional and the election is illegal.

"They are disenfranchising hundreds, maybe thousands of voters. People who should be allowed under the law to vote on this very, very important issue," Senate Minority Leader Sen. David Hahn said.

Gov. Dayton dismissed the objections last week as harassing tactics by opponents to try to block efforts to form a union.
