Rock star and music icon David Bowie died Jan. 10, 2016 after an 18-month battle with cancer. The singer had just turned 69 on January 8, the same day he released his latest album. A popular joke on the Internet is to say things were so tough in 2016 because Bowie was holding the world together.(credit: RALPH GATTI/AFP/Getty Images)
