MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Authorities say a 12-year-old student was detained Tuesday after allegedly shooting a 13-year-old boy with a BB gun at Faribault Middle School.

The incident happened at about 12:44 p.m. in a boys’ bathroom at the school. A staff member at the school notified the Faribault Police school resource officer that one student had shot another with a BB handgun. The school went into a lockdown as a result and the suspect, a 12-year-old student, was located by the teacher within minutes.

The student told the school’s resource officer and the staff member that he used a BB handgun. It was found in a backpack in his locker. The boy was arrested and taken to a secure juvenile facility pending criminal charges.

The victim suffered a minor injury to his arm. He told authorities he was confronted by the other boy in the bathroom and shot. He immediately reported the incident to school staff. There were no other injuries in the incident.
