New Facebook 'Like' Options Now Available

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- "Liking" things just got a whole lot more complicated.

After months of speculation, Facebook finally just rolled out its new set of emoji-reminiscent "like" buttons. They're tailored to more specifically reflect the user's emotional response to a post on the social network.

Some have expressed that, while liking a status has evolved to include expressing support or empathy for a post, it still felt inappropriate to "like" posts that shared news of a pet dying, or relationships breaking up, or someone losing their job.

The new buttons on Facebook show five new options that go beyond just liking something. You can indicate the following responses:

  • Love
  • Haha
  • Wow
  • Sad
  • Angry

The one button that remains unavailable to users is to "dislike" something.

Facebook had been testing the buttons in other countries and markets, but have now debuted them on iOS, Android and desktop browsers in the U.S. and around the world.

A few buttons that had shown up in early tests -- "confused" and "yay" -- were eliminated before this rollout.
