Student Removed From Cambridge Middle School After Airsoft Gun Incident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Officials in the Cambridge-Isanti School District say a middle school student has been disciplined following an incident involving an airsoft gun earlier this week.

District officials said the incident happened during the course of the day Monday at Cambridge Middle School. A letter was sent to parents and guardians in the district following the incident.

At about 3:09 p.m. Monday, a staff member at the middle school was notified that somebody had a BB gun in the school. The staff member immediately alerted school administrators, and the gun was discovered quickly.

Officials say the student found in possession of the gun said it was not theirs. The gun was confiscated by the school's resource officer, and administrators determined there was no further threat to the safety of students.

An investigation showed multiple students had been shot with an airsoft gun, which was originally thought to be a BB gun, over the course of the day Monday. Students suffered minor injuries, and their parents were notified.

Officials say the student who carried out the incident has been removed from Cambridge Middle School. Officials said they take the safety of their students very seriously.
