Wayzata Grabs First Boys Hockey Title

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Logan Lindstrand scored an unassisted game-winning goal early in the third period and Wayzata rallied to beat Eden Prairie 5-3 Saturday night to win its first Class 2A boys state hockey championship.

Colin Schmidt added an empty-netter for the Trojans (22-8-1). Alex Schilling had 30 saves.

Tied 3-3, Lindstrand kept the puck in at the left point and the junior defenseman's wristshot through traffic found its way into the Eagles' net at 5:32.

Goals by Michael Graham and Jarod Blackowiak gave Eden Prairie (21-8-2) a 3-1 lead midway through the second period, but Billy Duma scored short-handed before a wristshot from Matt Nelson tied the game late in the period.

Jack Carlson scored in the first for Wayzata and Casey Mittelstadt answered for Eden Prairie before the period was done.
