Police: Man Shot While Riding Metro Mobility Bus In Shakopee

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Shakopee police are trying to figure out who shot a man through the side of a Metro Mobility bus.

It happened around 2:15 Monday afternoon on Stagecoach Road, west of Highway 169.

Police say the bullet came from outside, entered the bus on the driver's side and then hit a 45-year-old Savage man. He was the only passenger.

The focus of the investigation is a small hole on the side of the bus. That's where police say a bullet entered and hit a passenger. The victim was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived, and he was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center for surgery.

Police believe the bullet hit the bus right at a curve on Stagecoach Road. They think the shot likely came from Highway 101, or the woods behind it.

But that's under investigation, as is whether or not this shooting was intentional or accidental.

"I hope it is because I hope nobody's just trying to shoot people out here," said Lucas Pumper, who lives in the area.

Investigators will look at surveillance video taken from inside the bus, as well as camera footage from nearby businesses. They also spent part of the afternoon searching the area for a suspect, and for any clues as to where the gun was fired.

"That's pretty crazy. I've been living in this area forever. My mom's business is right over here and I've never had any experiences like that on this road. That's pretty wild to hear about," said Pumper.

Police said the victim was shot with a small caliber bullet.

He was talking to his brother before he went into surgery, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police are asking for the public's help in this investigation. If you have any information you are urged to contact Shakopee Police at 952-233-9400, or text the word "spdtips" and the tip information to 847411.
