MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people died in an accident involving a car and motorcycle in Fridley on Monday, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department.

A 52-year-old male from Fridley and unidentified woman were declared dead at the scene after their three-wheeled motorcycle crashed into a mini-van shortly after 3 p.m. They were not wearing helmets, according to authorities.

The mini-van was turning onto East River Road from 79th Way NE when the motorcycle apparently ran a red light and struck it. The driver had a child with her in the car. Both were transported to Unity Hospital, but sustained no injuries.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.

This is the first fatal motorcycle crash of 2016, according to public safety officials.
