Gov. Dayton To Attend Trudeau State Dinner

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is traveling to Washington for a visit by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The 44-year-old prime minister is hoping to strengthen U.S.-Canada relations during his visit to the White House and President Barack Obama.

Thursday night, Dayton will attend the first state dinner for Canada since 1997.

Trudeau is the son of late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He aims to restore his father's legacy as leader of the Liberal Party, which was under siege during 10 years of Conservative rule under Stephen Harper, Trudeau's predecessor.
