MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – On the heels of the mega-popular Netflix docu-series “Making a Murderer,” the cable network HBO is also delving into the details of a recent Wisconsin criminal case.

According to Indiewire, HBO’s latest addition to its documentary repertoire is called “Beware the Slenderman,” and it explores what possibly led two 12-year-old girls in 2014 to stab their Waukesha classmate 19 times to appease a fictional character in a horror meme.

The film, directed by the award-winning filmmaker Taylor Brodsky, is slated to premiere this Friday at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Indiewire says Brodsky uses the grisly Wisconsin story to explore the effect internet lore has on real-life actions and also investigates how digital media affects the minds of children.
