Sheriff: Hager City Woman Drove Car Into River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A missing woman from Hager City, Wis., who was found in the Mississippi River drove her vehicle into the river after missing a curve, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

Marya Christiansen, 24, had not been seen since last Saturday, when she was out with friends for a night in Red Wing. She was presumably headed home to Hager City at about 2:30 a.m., but never got there. A white van was pulled from the Mississippi River Wednesday afternoon, and authorities confirmed her body was inside.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said Thursday she missed a curve and drove straight onto the grass before going into the water. The sheriff said the curve near the river is not sharp, and authorities are still investigating what happened.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner will determine her cause of death. Christiansen was a mother of two boys.
