Juvenile Arrested After High Speed Chase With Stolen Cement Truck

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A juvenile suspect is in custody after leading authorities on a chase with a stolen cement truck on Sunday in southeastern Minnesota, according to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.

The Minnesota State Patrol requested assistance at about 3 p.m. on Highway 14 near Kasson after they were in pursuit of a cement truck there attempting to stop for speeding. Deputies with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office and officers with the Kasson Police Department provided assistance in the chase with stop sticks in an effort to disable the truck.

At about 3:05 p.m., a State Patrol vehicle was hit by the truck and officers said they were ending the pursuit.

Dodge County authorities and Kasson police officers continued with the pursuit of the truck, which was believed to be stolen from Dodge Center. Several attempts were made to stop and disable the truck, which continued to Dodge Center and into town.

Authorities say at about 3:14 p.m., the suspect drove over a set of stop sticks and punctured the right front tire in the Dodge Center. The pursuit continued out of Dodge Center and onto rural roads near Kasson, reaching speeds of 65 to 70 miles per hour.

A Kasson police squad was also hit by the cement truck while attempting to alert and stop traffic on County Road 13. The pursuit continued towards Byron before going back on Highway 14 towards Dodge Center.

During the pursuit, the right front tire of the cement truck that went over the stop stick began smoking and came off the truck, which left one front tire intact. Authorities eventually backed off the pursuit due to safety concerns.

At about 4:12 p.m., the truck stopped in a cul-de-sac in Dodge Center. The suspect got out of the truck and fled. Officers caught the juvenile and arrested the suspect without further incident. The suspect was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester and being held for a court appearance.

The chase lasted 72 minutes, and a State Patrol squad and Kasson police squad were damaged during the pursuit. The truck, which appeared to be a new cement mixer, suffered a large amount of damage.

The suspect is expected to be charged on Monday.
