Coyle Ready To Take On Bigger Role With Wild

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- He's still recovering from getting a stick to the nose, but make no mistake, Charlie Coyle will be called upon as a key cog going down the stretch.

And by now, he's ready for that role.

If there is one young player starting to step out of the pack, it might be Charlie Coyle. He's learning what the NHL means, night in and night out.

"You always want to keep improving your play and I think experience definitely helps. I'm a couple years into the league now, so there's no excuses to not what role you're playing and how to play," Coyle said.

See, this is about maturing and you can only do that with ice time, and with veterans.

"We're more comfortable and it goes in levels but at the same time you want to get better and better," Mikko Koivu said. "You want more ice time, you want more goals, you want to help your team offensively more, you want to be good defensively and usually you become a better two-way player too."

That's part of the process for Coyle: Understanding the big picture, understanding his skill set and where the two can be married.

"Up and down obviously, team-wise and all that. You learn a lot obviously and you learn from your mistakes," Coyle said. "You just try to keep improving each day, coming to the rink every day ready to work and get better individually, get better as a team."

And what he knows with certainty he learned a long time ago: That to play well at any level, you better believe in yourself.

"When you've got that going for you, you feel good and you're determined. You're just confident in your play and everything you do," Coyle said. "You don't second guess yourself, so that's a good thing."
