Brooklyn Center Courthouse Reopened After 'Suspicious Device' Found

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Hennepin County courthouse has reopened after being closed for roughly two hours Friday morning as officials investigated a report of a suspicious device.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, around 8 a.m. officers responded to a report of a suspicious device found in the main lobby of District 2 Court in Brooklyn Center, located on the 6100 block of Shingle Creek Parkway.

The Minneapolis Police Department Bomb Squad was then brought in to examine the device.

While officials were investigating, the Brookdale Service Center, which houses some Hennepin County and state agencies, was evacuated. The Brookdale Library was also evacuated.

Further investigation by K9s lead the sheriff's office to believe there was no threat.

At 10 a.m. the Service Center was reopened. The library reopened shortly before 11 a.m.

The court reopened at 11 a.m. Anyone that missed an appointment can call to get it rescheduled.
