Football Player Retires Over Concussion Concerns
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An NFL football player who once played for Wayzata High School says he's retiring from the sport because of concern over concussions.
A.J. Tarpley, 23, announced his decision on an Instagram post late Wednesday.
"This decision is the hardest I've made yet but after much research and contemplation I believe it's what is best for me going forward," Tarpley said.
Tarpley has been with the Buffalo Bills for one season. He was signed after the 2015 NFL draft as an undrafted free agent.
Tarpley said that he suffered his third and fourth concussions during his season with the Bills.
"I am walking away from the game I love to preserve my future health," he said. "Thank you to my coaches at Wayzata and Stanford, and to lifelong friends that I was blessed to call teammates. You all molded me into the man I am today."
