MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Authorities say a pedestrian and her dog were killed Saturday after they were both hit by a train in Wadena.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened at about 6:10 p.m. Saturday. Authorities say a young female and dog were observed on the train tracks in town and were hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train heading eastbound.

The accident took place east of Highway 71. The train stopped immediately after the incident, and the train tracks were closed for about three hours while the incident was investigated.
