DNR Restricts Signs For Aurora Forum On PolyMet Permits

AURORA, Minn. (AP) — The Department of Natural Resources is restricting what kinds of signs people can bring to a forum in Aurora on the permitting process for the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mine.

Groups on both sides have been working to turn out supporters for Tuesday night's meeting at Mesabi East High School.

The DNR says no signs that create a safety hazard will be allowed inside, including signs with wooden sticks or other supports.

Small signs and posters will be allowed in, but they can't be larger than 18 inches by 24 inches. They must remain in the owner's possession, can't be posted and must not block walkways or be held up to obstruct views.

The DNR says the meeting is meant for explaining the permitting process, not for offering formal public comments.
